Friday, June 6th, was sunny and warm in New York which turned out to be a good thing considering we got wet! Our first stop was the Vista Plaza at the State of New York Power Station and I was surprised to discover this engraved in a concrete monument off to the side:
"O LORD, OUR LORD, HOW ADMIRABLE IS THY NAME IN ALL THE EARTH, THOU WHO HAS EXALTED THY MAJESTY ABOVE THE HEAVENS. WHEN I SEE THY HEAVENS, THE WORK OF THY FINGERS, THE MOON AND THE STARS WHICH THOU HAST ESTABLISHED, WHAT IS MAN THAT THOU ART MINDFUL OF HIM? THOU HAST GIVEN HIM POWER OVER THE WORKS OF THY HANDS, THOU HAST PLACED ALL THINGS UNDER HIS FEET."
From Psalm 8

With this in the back of my mind we went to view one of the marvelous works of His hands.
These first two views promptly reminded me of our family's Deschutes River white water rafting trip a few years ago; not a happy memory for this scardy-cat. Laugh, kids, laugh!

Next we went to the observation tower and saw the awesome view of both falls. And way down there were the Maid of the Mist tour boats that take you into Horseshoe Falls. Hmmm...looks fun. Let's go.

OK, now we are getting drenched; time to get the camera under my Blue Bag! The roar is so loud you have to yell to make yourself heard to someone standing right next to you.
A perfect goodbye to the handiwork of God called Niagara FallsAnd then, riding the trolley back to the RV, reflecting on being given the privilege to see the power and beauty displayed here, my eyes were drawn to this piece of litter under the foot of the person sitting in front of me.
Whoa.
A reminder of the grandest display of Power and Beauty ever given to mankind, discarded and trampled underfoot.
Something to think about .

Oh man...Deschutes River trip. What a memory.
"I'm taking Jodi and we're just going to WALK the rest of the way.
"I'm NOT getting back in that boat George."
Wow. I've always wanted to see Niagara Falls. Maybe some day. Looks like fun.
And by the way, your last picture...wow. I'm glad you took a picture of that. It's a piece of thought-provoking art by itself.
That was a powerful piece in many senses.
I spent awhile while reading your post the first time through just staring at the pictures and TRYING to comprehend the power. And then to see that last picture: whoa.
Jake's catechism this week:
"What are the decrees of God?"
"The decrees of God are His eternal purpose according to the power of His will whereby, for His own glory, He hath foreordained whatever comes to pass."
and:
"How does God execute His decrees?"
"God executes His decrees in the works of creation and providence."
It is a great and powerful God we serve who creates and plans all things...even the trampling of His creation and plan...for his own glory.
Wow. I wish I could have been there.
