Wednesday dawned rainy and cool and it was time to leave our beautiful spot in Maine. I set the GPS ( funny George quip on that; I'll share it on another day) and we were on our way by 8 am. We discovered that it probably isn't a good idea to set the GPS to Shortest Route when you're in a motor home towing a pickup and you have no knowledge of the area. It took us on a very scenic route through western Maine and into New Hampshire. Scenic is wonderful, but we followed the 'guide' right onto a little back road that kept getting narrower with no options for turning around. After a scary moment on meeting a dump truck, trying to make room for him to get by, getting into some soft dirt on the shoulder resulting in something that felt like sliding on ice, and some excellent wheel control by George, we were straight on the road again. I didn't realize that the truck (ours) slid into a small ditch but no major harm was done. Good thing we were going slow, enjoying the scenery! I silenced the GPS and got out the map!
It's hard to take photos out the window as we go (George's comment: "You have image stabilization don't you?" Well, yes, but.....!) Here's a quick-zoom shot of the top of the capitol building in Montpelier, VT. There's so much beauty driving through those Green and White Mountains! No photos, but good memories.
Up to the top of Vermont and across a bridge over Lake Champlain and into New York state.
We found a Wal Mart in a little town called Malone and stopped for the night. Even at Wal Mart we were treated to another gift of beauty, this duck and her fluffy brood. So cute!
Here's a typical traveling day for Elle:It was cold when we left this morning so she was happy to be tucked into her bed with her bunny and a blanket. When it warmed up she moved to the dash and did some sightseeing in the farm country of New York, then stretched out on the couch with her head on George's pillow and took another nap.
Poor spoiled little dog!

So, it finally happened: Today we paid over $5.00 a gallon for diesel. What can I say?
Tonight we are a few miles from Niagara Falls and plan to take a peek at that tomorrow.
Blessings and goodnight.

This is SO much better than having the trip explained via the phone. Your adventures make me smile. That second picture of Elle on the dash is awesome!
I can just hear Willie singing, "On the Road Again."
Hey, at least the diesel that you paid $5/gallon for was "enhanced"....whatever THAT means.
Love you guys!
$5 gas???? I've only heard rumors ..
I guess I was so focused on the price that I didn't even see the 'enhanced' sticker; I had to look at the picture again! The Willie Nelson song is a favorite travel song; the CD is in the player now and every time the engine is started it comes on. We were laughing about it yesterday but neither of us turned it off.
