West Virginia, One: Princeton

And now begins West Virginia. George has work in five locations here, so it will be an extended stay! It's time for small towns, friendly people, steep mountains with narrow valleys and an abundance of natural beauty.

First stop was Princeton

There were no close campgrounds, so we parked at the mill, near the office.  We were only here three days and George worked those days, leaving no time to venture out.
My side yard. Deer ambled through here.
Nice rainbow, but wow, were we in for some rain over the next few weeks.

The most memorable event while we were here was not a good one. George had Paulee out for a walk, on the leash, when the "mill dog" came to investigate. It got a little too overwhelming for Paulee and she growled at it and that set off an attack. What a mess. Poor George was trying to get Paulee out of harm's way and had to pull her up by the leash, all the while trying to fend off the dog by yelling and kicking at it. He managed to get away and the dog sulked off. Poor little Paulee. The dog had grabbed her in front of her back leg, biting onto her belly and back. No broken skin but she ended up with some nasty bruises and it took about a week for her to return to normal. And the sad thing was, it took her about three days to let George near her. She apparently thought, with being jerked up by the leash and all the yelling, that George was upset at her. But all is forgiven and they are good buddies again. We didn't see the dog for two days, but when it returned it was limping, as was George. He commented on how he hated to kick a dog but felt it was necessary, in his and Paulee's defense. A mill worker later told George that the dog kills the groundhogs around the mill. Perhaps it only thought it was doing its job.
