A Bumpy Start....

Well, our plans were to leave on this trip to the eastern US sometime in April. However, God had different plans. Because of unresolved health issues for me, George went solo on a trip to Tennessee and Arkansas to take care of the most pressing work while I remained behind and had my gallbladder removed :/ But two weeks post-op we were on our way to North Carolina to continue the work schedule for this trip to the eastern US. And we were in for the ride of our lives! Since I don't know how to do a link to a specific Facebook entry I'll just paste it here:

"We have arrived. Well, we made it to Smithfield, NC anyway. It was somewhat of a cross country marathon of 3018 miles, five days total, one six hour day and four 11-14 hour days. I'm thinking it felt much longer because of a faulty airbag (shock absorber) that made for an extremely bouncy ride, to the point of launching Paulee and me off my seat at a point when my seatbelt was not fastened. I somehow managed to catch her mid-air before I landed back on the seat or she would have had an uncomfortable landing. I'm sure it would have made quite an amusing video clip :)

Through it all it doesn't seem to have interfered with my post-op recovery. I resorted to placing a pillow between myself and the seat belt. All that said, I am so very grateful for the abundance of traveling mercies poured out on us.
George started the job today. It is noon and 95 degrees with a forecast of 103. Welcome to NC summer!"

In spite of the bumpy, bouncy ride, I enjoyed the beauty on the way, especially in the High Plains area of Wyoming. The wildflowers were amazing but we did not have time to stop for pictures. I did manage a few random shots at freeway speed.

This is a photo of something I have been wanting to see since we started this cross-country business travel, a kind of bucket list thing: a baby pronghorn antelope! We saw quite a few; this is the best photo I was able to get.
We followed this unusual car hauler for a little but couldn't keep up! When the truck brakes were applied the brake lights of the rear view of the car on the back turned red. Clever.
I don't know that I have ever been so happy to see a destination road sign.
Smithfield, NC here we come!
